How Much Will the UK Vape Tax Add to Your Vsavi Order?

From 1 October 2026, every e-liquid sold in the UK carries a new Vaping Products Duty (VPD) of £2.20 per 10ml, plus VAT on top. Whether that's noticeable or substantial depends entirely on what you buy and how much of it, so here's exactly what it means across our own range.

The short version: a 10ml bottle picks up £2.64 in duty and VAT combined. A 50ml bottle picks up £13.20. Cartridges add a smaller amount per pack, scaling with pack size. Nothing about the duty depends on nicotine strength or which of our ranges you use, only volume.

Nothing in your comparison yet. Add a line above to build up your usual order.

Estimates only. Duty is a flat £2.20 per 10ml regardless of nicotine strength, including 0mg. VAT at 20% is added on top of the duty. We set our own shelf prices, so your final price may vary from this estimate.

The Two Dates That Matter

1 October 2026

Duty starts. Every e-liquid made or imported from this date carries the £2.20 per 10ml charge.

1 April 2027

The duty stamp grace period ends. From this date, every vaping product on sale in the UK must carry one.

Pack of 100 Cartridges
+£23.76

Flat rate for any nicotine strength, including 0mg. Applies equally to Platinum, 100% VG and 100% VG Gourmet at the same bottle size. Figures are duty plus VAT only, not a shelf price.

What the Duty Adds Across Our E-Liquid Range

Vsavi Platinum, our 100% VG range, and our 100% VG Gourmet flavours are all sold in the same three sizes, so the duty adds the same amount regardless of which one you buy:

  • 10ml bottle: +£2.64
  • 30ml bottle: +£7.92
  • 50ml bottle: +£13.20

The duty is charged purely on volume, so a 50ml bottle of 0mg nicotine-free Gourmet picks up exactly the same £13.20 as a 50ml bottle of our strongest Platinum. If you buy 30ml bottles regularly, that's the size to watch, since three of them a month is already over £23 in duty alone.

If You Use Our 100% VG Range for a PG Sensitivity

This is worth its own section, because it doesn't come up on a generic vape tax explainer. Some of our customers use the 100% VG range specifically because propylene glycol (PG) doesn't agree with them, not for the cloud or flavour difference. If that's you, there's no way around the duty by switching base, since VPD is charged identically on PG and VG liquid alike. The only lever you have is bottle size and how often you buy, the same as everyone else.

What It Adds to Classic Cartridges

Vsavi Classic Cartridges are sold in packs, and the duty scales with pack size rather than being a flat per-pack charge:

  • Pack of 5: +£1.19
  • Pack of 20: +£4.75
  • Pack of 40: +£9.50
  • Pack of 80: +£19.01
  • Pack of 100: +£23.76

Each cartridge holds 0.9ml, so the maths is the same £2.20-per-10ml rate applied to the total liquid in the pack, plus VAT.

What About Duty Stamps?

From 1 October 2026, e-liquid products must carry an official duty stamp on the packaging, similar to the security labels used on spirits. There's a grace period for stock made before that date, running until 1 April 2027, after which every product on sale must be stamped. This is mostly relevant if you're buying from anywhere other than an established retailer, since it's a straightforward way to confirm what you're buying has actually had duty paid on it.

This duty is about what you pay for e-liquid, not where you can use it. For the separate rules on where vaping is actually allowed, our guide to vaping indoors in the UK covers pubs, transport, hotels, workplaces and the new vape-free zones coming through the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.

Keeping Your Costs Down After October

A few practical options, none of which get you out of the duty entirely, but all genuinely reduce what you pay:

Buy larger bottles less often, if that suits your usage. A 50ml bottle picks up more duty per bottle than a 10ml, but less duty per ml overall isn't actually true here, since the rate is flat regardless of size. What larger bottles do save you is on VAT calculated against a lower per-ml retail price, so it's worth checking your own numbers rather than assuming either way.

Compare Platinum against 100% VG for your actual usage pattern, if PG sensitivity isn't a factor for you. The duty is identical either way, so this is purely about which suits your device and habits, not a tax-saving move.

Stock up sensibly before October, if you have flavours you know you'll get through. E-liquid has a shelf life of around 1-2 years, so there's a real but limited window here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the duty apply to 0mg nicotine-free e-liquid? Yes. The duty is charged on volume, not nicotine content, so 0mg bottles carry exactly the same £2.20 per 10ml as any other strength.

Is 100% VG e-liquid taxed differently from Platinum? No. VPD doesn't distinguish between PG and VG bases. A bottle of either range at the same size carries the same duty.

How much extra will a pack of cartridges cost? It depends on pack size. A pack of 20 picks up £4.75 in duty and VAT combined; a pack of 100 picks up £23.76. Each cartridge holds 0.9ml, and the duty scales with the total liquid in the pack.

When does the duty actually start? 1 October 2026. Products made or imported before that date can still be sold without a duty stamp until 1 April 2027.

Will Vsavi's prices go up because of this? The duty is a government charge added to e-liquid regardless of retailer, so it will be reflected in pricing across the industry, not something specific to how we price our own range.

About the Author

Joe Delaney, Director and Content Writer at Vsavi

Joe Delaney looks after Vsavi's content, and writes for switchers specifically: someone thinking about it and a bit nervous, or someone who tried before, blamed themselves when it didn't stick, and is weighing up one more go.

The kit has been used. If Joe recommends a device, he has filled it, carried it and lived with it, because for a new switcher, whether it leaks in a pocket or lasts the day is what decides whether vaping actually sticks.

Health, safety and regulatory points are checked against named UK authorities such as the NHS and MHRA, and a product is only ever called "less harmful than smoking" where a UK authority says so. More about how he works, and the family story behind Vsavi, is on Joe's author profile.
